As the old year passes….

Today is the last day of the year, a good time to reflect on the old and look with anticipation towards the new. The profound feeling for me when I look back is one of gratitude. It was by no means the best year for me but I am deeply grateful for what I accomplished over the last 12 months.

I am grateful for my family, we got together for my mom’s 87th birthday in Jamaica. We travelled from a few different countries and none of us got sick despite the Covid 19 situation. I was stuck for a few extra days in Jamaica which was quite expensive but it was a blessing to spend extra days with my mother and sister.

I am grateful for my health, I had surgery and recovered to good health in a fairly short time. I continue to eat well and exercise to keep a strong mind and body. I could do with a bit more exercise but I am working on that in the new year.

I am grateful for my friends, it is a blessing to have people you can count on and who can count on you to be there in good times and bad. I realize that having a support system is essential to survive in this extended pandemic.

I am grateful for my job, I am working from home for almost two years and this has given me the opportunity use the extra time I save from having no commute to exercise. I usually end up working longer but I look at the bright side… when I log off my kitchen is only a few steps away from my office!

I am grateful for my faith, without it I would be lost. My time spent reading and meditating on the bible is one constant that makes my life so meaningful. It is the reason I can be grateful when so many things are still not going my way. I could have written a long list of what went wrong but that is not the way my faith allowed me to view the year. Every lost opportunity was a moment of learning for me. I take this improved attitude into the new year with the knowledge that no matter what comes my way I will overcome. You too have the strength to meet the new year with great expectations and renewed success. Walk good.
